This article on the rise and fall of Napster is curious, but I could swear the dates are off by a year, because I distinctly remember my first downloaded mp3, and how I was walked through it by people at tORN's chatroom, and I remember the bedroom and the house we lived in at the time, and let me tell you, I wasn't living in that city in May 1999.

Although the more I think about it the more confused I get. In my head, my tORN days were strictly limited to PA, and didn't follow me to SP. And the song in particular was released in early 1998, and was a huge chart hit then; even allowing for a year's delay reaching South America the numbers don't line up with what the article is telling me.

This is perhaps an apt moment to reference the recent Oliver Sacks piece in the NYRB on memory and its surprising fallibility.
